Where ChatGPT, TikTok and other apps work on a travel eSIM

Whether an app works on a travel eSIM depends on the exit country — where your traffic reaches the internet — not on where you are standing. A plan that exits through Singapore, Japan, Europe or the US behaves like a connection from there. Pakyo publishes the exit country for every plan, so you know before you buy.

Availability here is based on each plan’s IP country. Apps can change their own rules at any time, and how you use them is subject to the laws of the country you’re in. Pakyo doesn’t control or guarantee third-party apps.

Local networks in these destinations block or limit ChatGPT, Gemini and TikTok. Selected Pakyo plans use an IP address in a country where they work — each plan on the product page shows its IP country and exactly which apps work, including where TikTok is iPhone-only.

We list ChatGPT, Gemini and TikTok plan by plan. Other apps that block or limit access by location see the same IP country, so where applicable they behave as they would there. Common ones:

These aren’t checked plan by plan. Some apps also look at your SIM or account region, not just your IP.

In these destinations at least one Pakyo plan has an IP address where ChatGPT and Gemini are confirmed to work. TikTok works too on most — on some plans only on iPhone (iOS 17.4+), and each product page says which.

Common questions

Is this a VPN?

No. Nothing is installed besides the eSIM itself. Roaming eSIMs naturally route traffic through the operator’s home country — the exit country — so the internet treats you as connecting from there. Pakyo simply tells you which country that is for every plan.

Will ChatGPT and Gemini work in mainland China?

On selected Pakyo plans, yes. Some use a Singapore IP throughout; others use a Hong Kong IP that switches to Singapore when you open ChatGPT or TikTok. Plans with a Hong Kong or Philippines IP only are not guaranteed. The product page marks each plan.

Why does TikTok work on iPhone but not Android on some plans?

It comes down to how those plans route traffic. Our network partner confirms TikTok works on iPhone with iOS 17.4 or later, and doesn’t on Android. Rather than promise more, we mark these plans “TikTok on iPhone only”. If you’re on Android and need TikTok, pick a plan without that note.

Does TikTok work in India?

TikTok has been banned in India since June 2020, and it isn’t in Indian app stores. Every Pakyo plan for India uses an IP address outside India (Singapore, or Poland/UK), so TikTok works as it does at home — as long as the app is already on your device. Indian law still applies while you’re there.

Can I get a US IP address?

Yes — some plans have a US IP address, so apps that check location usually treat you as being in the US. Each plan option on the product page shows its IP country.

What about WhatsApp, Instagram, Google and other apps?

Same rule: they follow the IP country. On a plan whose IP is outside mainland China, Russia and similar networks, they work as they normally would there. We don’t check every app plan by plan.
